The Transparency Somalia Initiative (TSI) joined Somali civil society organizations (CSOs) at a three-day Capacity-Building Training on Parliamentary Monitoring and Budget Oversight, held from 15th to 17th April 2025 in Mogadishu. Organized by Somalia Non-State Actors (SONSA) with support from the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) and Kenya’s Mzalendo Trust, the event strengthened TSI’s technical capabilities to promote transparency in Somalia’s governance institutions.
Training Focus
Held at Mogadishu’s LANA Hotel, the program equipped CSOs with tools to monitor legislative processes, track public spending, and advocate for accountability within the Federal Parliament and Executive Offices. Facilitators from Mzalendo Trust led sessions on data-driven oversight methodologies and citizen engagement strategies.
TSI’s Role in Advancing Accountability
As a key member of the Civil Society Working Group, TSI emphasized its commitment to institutional transparency during the training. Representatives highlighted the organization’s use of technology to streamline budget tracking and legislative oversight, aligning with its mission to promoting integrity, accountability, and transparency in all aspects of Somali society

The training fostered knowledge exchange among Somali CSOs, with TSI gaining skills to enhance its advocacy campaigns.
