Citizen Empowerment & Access to Information
Technical reforms are only sustainable if they are backed by an informed and organized citizenry. Citizen Empowerment & Access to Information moves the anti-corruption movement from the boardroom to the streets. We believe that access to information is the lifeblood of accountability. By providing the public with reporting tools and data literacy, we transform passive victims of corruption into active “Custodians of Integrity.”
Core Strategic Workstreams
1. Advocacy and Legal Advice Centres (ALACs)
TSI is establishing Somalia’s first ALAC, providing a safe and confidential bridge between citizens and the justice system.
– Citizen Redress: We provide free legal guidance to victims of corruption and administrative malpractice.
– Case Management: Using Transparency International’s proven global standards, we track reports from initial intake to resolution, ensuring whistleblower safety through strict data protection.
2. Somalia Transparency and Accountability Conference (STAC)
STAC is our premier national platform for high-level dialogue.
– Multi-Stakeholder Engagement: We bring together the Federal Government, UN bodies (UNDP/UNODC), and Civil Society to synchronize anti-corruption efforts.
– Policy Catalyst: The conference serves as a space to showcase government progress and pressure leaders for continued reform in the public eye.
3. The Somali Transparency Award
Presented annually on International Anti-Corruption Day (Dec 9), this award shifts the national culture by celebrating heroes. We honor individuals and organizations—journalists, researchers, and civil servants—who demonstrate extraordinary courage in upholding the rule of law.
4. Data Literacy & Social Accountability
Transparency is useless if data cannot be understood. We provide the frameworks for CSOs and media to critically analyze public spending. We deploy innovative reporting tools to make it easier for MDAs to publish data and for the public to monitor it in real-time.
Citizen Empowerment & Access to Information creates a permanent “feedback loop” where the government is held accountable by the governed, ensuring that transparency is a shared national value.
