January 29, 2025:
We are excited to share the comprehensive Anti-Corruption Awareness Training Report, detailing the highlights, outcomes, and future recommendations from our recent capacity-building initiative in Mogadishu.
At the Transparency Somalia Initiative (TSI), we believe that institutional accountability and good governance begin with an informed and active citizenship. This training brought together 25 dedicated civil society leaders—including human rights lawyers, women’s group advocates, and researchers from prominent think tanks—all united in building a more transparent society.
Highlights from the Report:
-
Interactive Methodology: The session combined real-world Somali case studies, group discussions, and peer learning to move beyond theory into practical application.
-
Core Pillars Covered: Participants delved into the root causes and societal impacts of corruption, analyzed existing legal and institutional frameworks, and explored robust whistleblower protection mechanisms.
-
The Power of CSOs: Explicit focus was placed on how civil society organizations can drive public awareness campaigns, conduct rigorous monitoring, and build alliances to dismantle a culture of impunity.
Impact & Next Steps
The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, signaling a deep, collective desire across Somali society for a future free from corruption. To sustain this momentum, the report outlines strategic recommendations for the future, including specialized follow-up tracks on public procurement monitoring, investigative journalism, and legal policy reform.
As we move forward with upcoming initiatives—including the rollout of our Advocacy and Legal Advice Centre (ALAC) later this year—this training serves as a foundational step toward strengthening citizen-led oversight.
